In the September 2008 issue:  


  Pennsylvania-based Snyder Amusements has a long-standing engagement for a firemen’s carnival in Maryland. The carnival lit up the midway with 16 rides and a variety of games and food concessions.

  Helm & Sons Amusements had a busy May playing two successive dates that were fortunately only about 40 miles apart: the San Bernardino County Fair in Victorville, California, and the National Orange Festival in San Bernardino.

  Crabtree Amusements unleashed an array of new rides and attractions at the Poteet (Texas) Strawberry Festival. New to the ride list – among others- were a Wisdom Genesis; an Owen Trailers’ Haunted Mansion; and a Larson Fireball.

  Down Memory Lane views some of the artistic wagons that were once part of the Royal American Shows.

  The 2008 Minnesota State Fair compiled an independent midway featuring rides, games, and attractions from many of the best shows in the country. A listing of all of the midway attractions, along with their owners, is presented.

  Manufacturer’s Showcase puts the spotlight on Amusement Sales, a company that represents the Fabbri Group in the United States; and Gold Medal, a concession supply company, has updated their web site.

  Modeler’s Corner offers a look at several of the scale model carnival layouts that were set up at the Monroe County (New York) Fair this year.

  The History of Train Shows continues its coverage of Bill Hames Shows through the 1950s and Bill Hames’ passing in 1960.

  See how - like clockwork - the classic piece the Sky Wheel rises up on a midway.

  Route Snapshots takes in the City of Fun Carnival at a date in Tucson, Arizona.

  A History of the West Coast Sows details some of the concessions and attractions booked n the carnival during the 1930s and ‘40s and the impact World War II had on the show.

  To facilitate looking for a company that does business with the outdoor amusement industry, an Advertiser’s Index has been added to the magazine.

  On the Road is a chronological route listing for the month of September of dozens of carnivals traveling to events throughout the continent. This listing is a great resource for scheduling or finding a favored show.
